Lee Gibson News

"Thank goodness! Spring has finally arrived. Whilst it's great that we had seasonal weather at Christmas, it went on far too long and I am looking forward to even warmer and even better days. Let's hope the weather people get it right this year!

In April I shall be at the fantastic Cadogan Hall with the amazing BBC Big Band. We shall be celebrating the great British Big Bands. It will be a great evening for lovers of big band jazz. I've appeared at the Hall before with the BBC Concert Orchestra and it is a lovely venue situated just off Sloane Square.

I'll then be following this up with a special performance of 'The Magic of Gershwin' at Ronnie Scotts on Sunday 25th April at lunchtime. I am really looking forward to this and it is a great way to spend a Sunday lunchtime.

Keep returning to the site as dates will be added on a regular basis.

Take good care of yourselves.

Hope to see you soon.

Love Lee."

REVIEWS FOR 'SONGS OF TIME AND PLACE':-

'I love listening to Lee Gibson, because everything she does sounds right. It's not just a question of pitch and time and clarity of diction, although they are all part of it. The rightness comes from the flair with which she uses these gifts to create a fresh version of a well-known song. How many time have you heard 'It's alright with me' or 'Over the Rainbow'? You might think that there was little more to be revealed about them, but Lee sharpens them up no end. And she does it without resorting to eccentric interpretations or absurd tempos. Essentially, she does what Ella Fitzgerald used to do, gradually opening the thing up and causing it to reveal itself.'Dave Gelly THE MUSICIAN

‘One of the most talented and talked about of today’s singers is Lee Gibson. If you want to know just what she is about and why she is so well regarded, listen to this CD. The more I play the record the more I have enjoyed it. Gibson is undoubtedly a real talent.’ Jazz Review

‘While Cassandra Wilson leads the female vocal field in America, Lee Gibson has comparable status in Britain. She invests the songs with a personal vitality allied to a respect for the lyricists’’ intentions.’ Manchester Evening News

‘All the attributes required to make an accomplished jazz singer, phrasing attack, intonation and the ability to swing are all here. If you want to hear jazz singing with the brakes off this is one for you. This could be a contender for the Female Jazz Vocalist disc of the year’. Jazz Rag

‘A collection of great songs, carefully chosen and carefully arranged, which ought to secure Lee Gibson’s deserved place among the very front rank of UK based vocalists’. Jazz UK

‘And so she goes from strength to strength. I have yet to hear anything less than a good CD by this singer and this set matches up to its predecessors. If you haven’t heard her before this is a wonderful place to start.’ Jazz Journal International

‘Not only has she a wonderful voice, an innate sense of swing and great performing ability, she is also renowned for her musicality and originality of approach. This is a highly sophisticated jazz album, which should be very well received.’ Crescendo

'She is, without doubt, the best jazz singer this country has produced in the last 40 years.' Digby Fairweather
